Go Ahead

  • I thought it would be fun to write a blues song from a perspective of a man, whose wife is threatening to leave. It’s kind of a lark – Go Ahead!

you said you're gonna leave me

if I don't change my ways

stop my drinking and my gambling

or you ain’t gonna to stay

    you said you deserve better

    you need a sensitive man

    someone who's home for dinner

    with flowers in his hand

I hate to break the news to you

    I'm not the changin’ kind

I'd rather sit with my old dog

    than listen to you whine

why don't you go ahead and go

I’ll never change my ways you know

no need to stay around and try

You know I'm gonna make you cry

when'd you get in in your head

    I'd be someone I'm not

It must be somethin’ that you read

A romance story that you bought

Or listening to that preacher man

say that all you gotta do

    Is work on changing me

    Someday I'll be like new

Well there's the front door to the world

Don't let me hold you back

Get on with things while you still can

    I'll even help you pack

why don't you go ahead and go

I’ll never change my ways you know

no need to stay around and try

You know I'm gonna make you cry
