My Best Friend
-
I don’t listen to a lot of country music – but I think this would make a great country storyteller’s song.
My best friend was a blue jean’d cutie
With long pigtails she was a real true beauty
She could bait her hook with the boys like me
And she wasn’t afraid to shinny up those trees
She used to say that I didn’t play fair
With a frog in her soda and me pulling her hair
Even though we didn’t seem to have a clue
I think somehow that we always knew
She’d be my best friend
She is my best friend
She’s the girl next door
Who brought so much more
Oh ya. She’s my best friend.
My best friend was a blue jean’d cutie
At the high school dance she would shake her booty
Her daddy got mad when the band played long
But she’d yell for more when they played our songs
When the days were long and our nights were free
I’d try to hug her and she’d kiss me
When it got dark we’d catch fireflies
And she’d stare at me with those big green eyes
Cuz she was my best friend
She is my best friend.
She’s the girl next door
Who brought so much more.
Oh ya. She’s my best friend.
Now my best friend is a blue jean’d cutie
With no makeup on - she’s a real true beauty
She’s no princess you put on a shelf
And she likes me just like she likes herself
We still go down to the old oak tree
Where she first carved that she loved me
We still catch fish by the morning light
Now with our little girl - and smiles so bright.
It’s my job now that she know
Her daddy loves her mommy so…
Cuz she my best friend
Ya. She’s my best friend
She’s the girl next door
Who brought so much more
Ya. She’s my best friend.
