Both Rena and Johnny had birthdays in September. Dave and I shared more than 30 years with each of them and so we share many memories both bittersweet and tender…and That Don’t Take Nothin’ From Us
There’s a faraway look in your eyes today
And I know where you’ve gone
You’re visiting a forgotten memory
And there ain’t nothing wrong
You just need a moment to reflect upon
The life that you once had
We can sit quiet while I hold your hand
Then you won’t feel so bad
It’s ok if we talk about them
Ok to share the memories
It’s ok to remember when
It’s just a part of our history
All the people and the places we’ve known
Just made us who we’ve come to be
That don’t take nothin’ from us you know
Cuz I’ve got you here with me
She took my heart and he took yours
It was a long and glorious ride
Then walked right through heaven’s open doors
Leaving us empty inside
They must’ve known that we shouldn’t be alone
That you needed me and I needed you
They sent the angels to bring us home
And find a love brand new
It’s ok if we talk about them
Ok to share the memories
It’s ok to remember when
It’s just a part of our history
All the people and the places we’ve known
Just made us who we’ve come to be
