Planting Seeds in Hibernation

In winter I go deep inside

my sacred space to hibernate.

I draw the shutters of my heart,

rejecting fear that infiltrates.

Shining light down a dark crevasse,

I see those things that keep me blind.

It’s then I face with honesty,

the roots of bitterness that bind.

Sometimes they’re from words

that were spoken to me in vain.

More often they are memories

that trigger a dangerous flame.

And if I never notice

what’s been planted in my soul,

In time I lose my focus

on love and light that keep me whole.

I’m looking now for better seed

to sow while I’m in hibernation.

Waters of kindness are what I need

for my spiritual awakening.

In spring I’ll rise like a butterfly.

I’ll feel the sunlight’s warm embrace.

Unrecognized by my former life,

I’ll leave behind my hiding place.
