The Desert’s Call

  • I’ve lived in the desert a big part of my life. I am loving mountain living, but sometimes I hear The Desert’s Call.

    The Desert’s Call

    The desert’s calling me again.

I need her now like a long-lost friend,

To spend some time in the wilderness,

And share some moments of lonely bliss.

The desert’s calling me again -

“Leave the ocean and mountains behind to tend

Your weary soul where the cactus lies,

And nothing stirs but the dragonfly.”

    The desert’s calling me again.

She seeks me now not waiting for when

I’ll find some more convenient time

To leave my troubles far behind.

    The desert’s calling me again

To see the horizon that never ends.

No green or blue but brown and sage

Welcome me here in the morning haze.

I take in her fragrance after the rain.

Let go of the heartache; release the pain.
