Together We’ll Fly

If you go before me across that great abyss,

That seems to divide the heavens from earth,

I will wait for a certain morning star to rise

And I will celebrate your eternal birth.

Tears may flow down my cheeks of clay

And my chest may ache for your tender light

That was shown to me often through your smile

And now shines down gently in the night,

But you will be dancing in a new dimension

And that’s something I must hold fast.

I will honor what has come before,

But I won’t hold on to the past.

When your spirit sheds its earthly shell

And finds its place in eternity,

There are no limits to where I will find you.

I’ll see you in the mountains, in the trees and the sea.

I promise I’ll listen for your whispering song

In the fire that warms me and the rain that renews.

I’ll find it in babbling streams and the desert

And then I will sing it back to you

Then some sweet day perhaps you’ll see my star

Rising to take its place in the sky

I’ll join your dance with the angels

And together again – we’ll fly.
