Dusty Road

  • Thanks to Mark Carter (RIP) for the request to write something that started “there ain’t no jobs and there ain’t no rain.” I was thinking about the Dust Bowl days in America when I wrote these lyrics.

    Dusty Road

been lookin' all day for an honest wage

pass the jug and turn the page

this old world done take my dad

he gave the land all he had

it took from him; it stole his soul

it left him only the dusty road

there ain't no jobs and there ain't no rain

    baby's cryin’; I’m broke again

but we'll get by I promise you

we’ll get by; we always do.

a loaf of bread and its okay

we're gonna make it another day

i ride them rails mile after mile

tracks run forever and for a while

i will remember dark sky and rain

drink the water; kill the pain

there ain't no jobs and there ain't no rain

    baby's cryin; i'm broke again

but we'll get by I promise you

we'll get by; we always do.

we try our best to carry on

soon we'll see that we have won

our weary souls will find some rest

at heaven's gate we'll match this test

no more sorrow; no more pain

there ain't no jobs and there ain't no rain
